Brina M.2022-10-04Gerard, the organizer, has amazing communication. He sent me everything I needed to know for meeting and prep by email and sms. He also was very quick to reply to me and help me when I got there so that I could find the group more easily. I paid for the Colosseum (undergound and main), palantine, and forum. Francesca was our tour guide. it was a group of 3 so pretty much a private tour. Francesca was kind and knowledgeable of the sites. The only reason I don't give 5 stars is because I wouldn't say that the tour exceeded mu expectation. although the guide new the sites, she didn't animate much. She seems to have told us just the bear minimum of what we needed to to know based on main things that we needed to see there. I would have given 5 stars if I had a guide that was a great story teller showing an obvious passion for the history and the sites with additional historical anecdotes about the roman sites. overall would recommend :)Verified

Knew the entire history of Rome and told us a great story of the city while taking us through the Colosseum, Palatine, and the Forum. Were able to see the underbelly and the main floor of the Colosseum as well which was really incredible. 3.5 hour tour and a lot of walking. Would recommend at least 1L of water per person, especially if traveling in warm summer months like us. There are water fountains, restrooms, and street vendors that sell water as well. C. L. C.2016-10-29We booked two tours with Real Rome Tours the first was a semiprivate tours. The first was the Treasures of the Vatican Tour. We met our guild at the Real Rome Tour offices after a nice lunch at a restaurant in the area. Our guide provided us with audio devices and ear phones (I used my own ear buds) so we would be able to hear him during the tour. We walked to the Vatican and after a couple of minutes waiting we entered the Vatican. Our guild was very knowledgable about the Vatican and the history of the site. He took time to give us additional information about the Vatican and what to expect on the tour. We walked the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel and Saint Peter's Basilica. He also recommended good locations for pictures and how to navigate the Vatican after the tour. Our second tour was the Real Ancient Rome Tour with a larger group. Again it was a great tour and the guild was very knowledgable of all the sites. I highly recommend Real Rome Tours if you are planning to visit Rome and want to know more about what you are seeing.Verified

She tailored the tour to our needs -- including my kids' need to rest and sit down at times. She did a great job of engaging my two kids in the tour, making them feel comfortable enough to ask questions, and giving them information they would be interested in (gladiators!). Our experience with Real Rome Tours has been excellent from beginning to end. All the staff -- including the office staff answering the phone -- is professional and friendly, and they delivered on everything they promised. We would definitely use Real Rome Tours again!Verified

Our Vatican tour was scheduled for Good Friday, and he informed us in advance that breakfast at the Vatican would not be possible. The Colosseum tour was extraordinary, with Donna providing fascinating details such as tickets to the gladiator arena, 3D maps, and other mini artifacts. Even the kids were thoroughly engaged, and we continue to reminisce about the experience. Moreover, Gerard went above and beyond to assist us. He helped us to collect our tickets for Papal Mass on Easter Sunday, guiding us to the right place. To top it off, he even connected us with a guide in Florence, showcasing his exceptional commitment to enhancing our overall travel experience. I was only interested in seeing the underground and having access to the arena, and not the expensive and exhaustingly long 3-hour tours that include the forum and Palatino. Communication from the company pre-tour was great, both via email and text. The explanations for finding their location were super clear and included photos. I really really loved the fact that I didn’t have to queue for an eternity for the security screening, having been shepherded through some kind of priority lane. The guide was knowledgeable and clear, and was happy to answer questions. We had to keep moving as there is a constant chain of groups that keep flowing through, but there was sufficient time to take things in and have a proper look, as well as picture what it might have been like. The tour lasted about an hour, and then we were free to explore the first level at our leisure. There’s an exhibition on at the moment, that includes miniature builds that bring the explanations we heard to life. The ticket is also valid for entry to the forum, the same or next day. I was very happy with my tour. I would be happy to recommend it. Four stars and not five because I thought that it lacked an overview of the uses of the Colosseum and how it morphed in the centuries post the Roman Empire.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.

The guides were so on top of it, we were the first ones in the Colosseum! We had it to ourselves! We got some of the coolest pictures. Additionally our Vatican guide was so knowledgable. We learned so much about the art and history we never knew. Both tours were definitely worth the cost! We skipped all lines and got to really enjoy and take in the views and history. They were a highlight of the trip!! Highly recommend this company. She kept us moving at a good pace, but would also stop and chat for a bit to allow folks to catch up. It was also much easier to get in with the tour guide so I'd highly recommend booking with them. stefd3092023-11-27Amazing experience! Excellent guide! We had an amazing experience touring the Colosseum and underground, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill. Real Rome was very upfront about how getting tickets for the underground worked with the new system the colosseum has in place. They managed expectations by saying that it wasn’t guaranteed until a few weeks before our travel date when tickets go on sale to tour companies and they try hard to get all tickets needed! They didn’t charge us until tickets had indeed been acquired. I read a lot of reviews of other less upfront companies that said it felt like a bait and switch because they didn’t know until the day of that the company didn’t actually secure tickets for them. Not so with Real Rome! Real Rome also had great communication during booking, when tickets had been acquired, and how to meet our guide. Our guide, Patrizia, was excellent! She was very knowledgeable and added a lot to our understanding of the history of Rome and the colosseum itself. I can’t imagine touring these locations without a guide! You’d miss so much good info! I definitely recommend this tour company!Verified

Before we even arrived, Gerard was fantastic at communication, tailoring the tour to our interests, and figuring out the best times to arrive at each spot. They were always on time to pick us up at our hotel and stayed on time throughout the day. The Mercedes van was always clean and had water in it for us. There was only two of us but it would have comfortably seated 6 people. We booked them for the evening walking tour--a must to see Rome at night with Heidi, the next day a full tour of Rome complete with the Vatican, Colosseum, and more with Max and Fabio, and in our final day an amazing drive to Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast with Fabio and Katerina. Highly recommend all three tours. At the end of each day they always gave their recommendations on dinner choices and dessert. Gerard, Heidi, Max, Fabio, and Katerina, many many thanks!Verified
Brian V2023-06-10Amazing In July 2022 my family began planning our European vacation. When it came to our trip involving our visit to Rome I sought out professional tour companies to assist with our four day visit. After searching Google and reading customer reviews, I contacted Real Rome Tours and a gentleman by the name of Gerard Breen responded promptly to my email in English. I went over our timeframe and what we were looking for during our trip, and he made a proposal, which sounded exactly what we were looking for. After we finalized our travel dates we again made contact with Gerard, who made detailed plans for our four day visit. During our visit is my wife, yes, myself and our 42-year-old daughter. My wife has MS and walks with crutches. So traveling for her is a little slower than normal. We didn't want to partake in a large group because we felt like we would be holding up other tourist. Through Gerald's company, we were able to arrange private tours to old Roman Colosseum, the Vatican and the Sistine chapel, a day trip around Rome, as well as one day trip to Tivoli. We had two tour guides for our four days stay. Heidi was our first tour guide when we went to the Colosseum and old Rome as well as a one days driving tour around Rome to see numerous site including Trevi fountain, the Spanish steps and much more. Our time with her was very high-quality, and she tailored the tour to our needs, and our ability to walk on the uneven pavement. We were able to take frequent breaks as needed and what was very nice about the individualized tour was we were able to interact frequently and ask all types of questions regarding what we were seeing. During the day driving tour, our driver on this day was Selvio, and unlike many of Romes drivers his ride was smooth and relaxing in a very nice luxury van. For the final two days in Rome, our guide was Antonella. She took us through the Vatican, Sistine Chapel, Saint Peters Basilica and on the second day we went to a much less crowded venue of Tivoli to tour the grounds and garden and fountains. This was a more laid back day and a nice way to wind down our vacation. We had lunch with our guide at a restaurant called Il Ciocco, eat on their terrace with a most spectacular view. Antonella who is a wonderful tour guide, taking time to explain all of the key elements of what we were observing and not bugging us down with a lot of unneeded detail. She also was able to accommodate and make sure my wife was able to safely navigate all of the cobblestone and steps that we encountered during our trip with her. Our driver on the second day was Fabio. Lke our first driver, we found his driving style, very relaxing and smooth and again we were in a luxury van. He spoke good English, and really contributed to our enjoyment that day. Everything about our trip in Rome was outstanding, thanks to real Rome, tourism, and the guides and drivers that we had. If I go back to Rome, I will definitely be using Real Rome Tours and Gerard Green for any future trips to Rome. I would love to have Heidi and Antonella again as my tour guides. I cannot give a high enough rating for the excellent service they provided. The photos below show our group along with our tour guides. It’s was busier than expected and we were tired from several days of walking so be prepared for that. Our favorite were the monuments, statues, and being inside St Peter’s Basilica.
