An American man, wearing a t-shirt and shoulder bag by order, has decided to make the marriage proposal to his girlfriend in front of one of the symbolic monuments of Rome: the Trevi fountain.

The place is certainly one of the most romantic you could wish for in the world. Equally surely, you could not say that it is intimate, discreet and secluded. Especially in broad daylight, among thousands of tourists. Yet a young American man, with t-shirt and shoulder bag by order, decided to make the marriage proposal to his girlfriend in front of one of the symbolic monuments of Rome: the Trevi fountain.

He got down on his knees and asked for the girl’s hand. She said “yes”, to the enthusiasm of those present. She was excited, she took off her hat and wiped her tears of joy. The scene was greeted with applause and whistles in the direction of the future spouses. A kiss concluded the impromptu ceremony. The scene (it could not have been otherwise, given the incredible number of people who attended the proposal) was filmed and published on the Facebook group ‘Via Veneto e rione Ludovisi on Facebook’.

It is obviously not the first time that the monumental fountain is the backdrop for a marriage proposal. It has already happened (and we’re only talking about the scenes reported by the media, of course) in 2018, when a guy asked a girl to officially be his fiancè, with lots of applause from the other tourists, and also in 2016. That time the scene was again more ‘cinematic’, because the lower part of the Trevi Fountain was closed for cleaning. With the complacency of the maintenance workers of the monument, a boy got down on his knees and asked for his bride’s hand, practically in the center of an imaginary stage and under the eyes of hundreds of people.
